Óscar Formacio (Cholula,1989) is an artist, researcher, and cultural manager. His work is grounded in the microhistories of his place of origin: the Indigenous community of San Andrés Cholula (Puebla, Mexico). Through these narrative keys, he investigates the relationships between circular history and the ecopolitical dimension of materials and territory. In his research, he seeks to construct—through listening and dialogue with materials, places, and people—a narrative connected to the territories and memories of a given context, thereby establishing a poetic and political relationship with the site of investigation. This process has led him to explore moving images, sculpture, sound, and installation. For this reason, most of his projects have a site-specific character. In 2017, he founded Error, an independent art space that he continues to direct, currently in collaboration with Nina Fiocco. He co-produced and curated the following Error projects:
Cauces (sponsored by PAC, Jumex, IMACP, PECDA, and C5 – Ccemx), Escucharlacalle (sponsored by Pecda, Pac, and Jumex), De Retache (sponsored by Pac), Working Tongues (12–14 Vienna), and Lenguas Hermanas (Italian Embassy and Italian Cultural Institute). He was awarded national scholarships in Mexico for studies abroad. He received national awards (Encuentro de Arte Joven—2019 and Bienal Barco 2023). He was a member of the Nodos Puebla PAC SITAC committee in 2019. In 2018, he was awarded a residency through the UDLAP-CASA program, created by Francisco Toledo. In 2016, he won CENART’s PAPIAM award in the research category. His work has been exhibited at La Rada in Locarno, Switzerland; Gemainde Köln in Germany; the Museo di Grotaglie in Italy; Dos Mareas in France; White Cube in New York; and most recently at Casa de los Artistas in Milan, Italy. He currently lives and works between Mexico City and Milan.
