Artists in Residence 2018
Federico Tosi was born in Milano in 1988 he stills lives and works in Milan, Italy. He is a talented sculpture who tackles the topics of our innate and involuntary processes. His art talks about how we, as humans, often project feelings such as tenderness and love towards completely inanimate objects, without even being aware of doing it. Federico Tosi’s artworks are sometimes made of wood, glass, terracotta, resin or even plasticine, and often feature the imagery of animals, juxtaposed with human behavior in an ironic, even entertaining way. In fact, the artist often successfully manages to elicit both the feeling of discomfort and fun at the same time from his viewers. His artistic practice is defined by the loss of referentials, uncertainty and alienation through his painting and the very place of the work in space. Rita Fisher’s paintings are abstract landscapes where different objects and materials are connected and mixed. Thus each element of the painting acts as indicators of a path to follow, which mixed together result in a hybrid that makes the viewer lose all its references.
Rita Fisher’s works project the sensation of disintegration and permanent reconstruction and place the viewer in a space where temporality is indefinite, in order to create a meditative situation, a state of presence, contemplation and faith even for a few seconds.

Born in 1984 in Malabon City, Manila, Philippines. Lives and works in Manila, Philippines.
Jigger Cruz explores the primitive memory of the figurative in contemporary painting. The paintings rework many of the stylistic quirks and formal concerns of classical painting, employing their basic composition and approximating their processes. His pursuit of the idea that a painting is also an installation results in exposing the canvas stretcher bars and revealing all aspects and surfaces in the final artworks.
Jigger’s artistic approach plays with ideas of defacement and vandalization. The traditional painted landscapes that are visible underneath Cruz’s layers of oil and spray paint give the impression that an Old Master painting has been destroyed. The destruction of these figures becomes integral to our aesthetic understanding of the piece. His paintings become assemblages of recognizable objects and obscure shapes which interlace, envelope and unfurl within one another.
Jigger Cruz studied Fine Arts at the Far Eastern University in the Philippines and Design at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.
